Entry Level Couselor

Phoenix House California is currently
seeking an Entry Counselor to work in our California Department of Corrections
and Rehabilitation (CDCR) program. The CDCR program has established a Single-Level
Substance Use and Disorder Treatment (SUDT) program. The SUDT program is
designed for offenders who demonstrate the willingness to maintain appropriate
behavior to take advantage of such programming and for offenders who have been
referred to the program based upon substance use or possession infractions.
The goal of the Phoenix House California CDCR
program is to address offenders? criminogenic needs prior to release and to
facilitate a successful transition back to their communities in order to reduce
their likelihood of re-offending.
The treatment services include a wide range
of substance use treatment components; assessments, treatment planning, case
management, group and/or individual counseling, skill building, drug education,
and relapse prevention.
The Entry
Level Counselor shall:
+ Deliver treatment
service to Participants;
+ Conduct group and
individual meetings;
+ Evaluate and document
the progress of the Participants assigned to their groups;
+ Work directly with the
Participants to develop and implement a treatment service plan;
+ Coordinate with
Transition/Continuing Care Counselor to develop a Community Services Plan and
transitional documents, as directed by California Department of Corrections and
Rehabilitation (CDCR), for continued community program activities;
+ Work with Participant to
create a support network of the Participants pending return to the community;
and
+ Shall work
collaboratively with the CDCR and institutional staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:
+ The Entry Counselor shall possess high school
diploma or its equivalent; and
+ Certified as an Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Counselor,
with a certification recognized by The Department of Health Care Services
(DHCS) or willing to register upon hire.
EXPERIENCE:
+ Prior experience providing Single-Level Substance
Use and Disorder Treatment (SUDT) services to an offender population
preferred, not required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
+ Knowledge of the dynamics of
alcohol/drug related problems and their impact upon patients and their
families;
+ The social factors involved in
substance abuse;
+ The principles and techniques of rehabilitation
counseling and their application to individuals possessing chemical
dependencies;
+ Community resources available to persons with alcohol/drug
related problems;
+ The physiological and psychological effects of
chemical dependency;
+ General social, economic and health problems;
+ Ability to interview and counsel;
+ Establish and maintain effective working
relationships with others;
+ Communicate effectively with others, both orally and
in writing;
+ Must maintain a valid CA Drivers? License,
have proof of automobile insurance and maintain a safe driving record based on
Phoenix House policy.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
